Braaaiins! is a pumpkin ale, for zombies, with 7.8% ABV from Spring House Brewing Co. in Lancaster, PA. Spring House also offers Spinal Remains, a pumpkin stout, both the ale and stout are made with real pumpkins being added into the mash.
As expected this pumpkin ale pours to a vibrant amber color with a beige head which quickly dissolves releasing a strong scent of fresh pumpkin. The aroma is predominantly pumpkin, but as it warms notes of spice and alcohol warmth build. This balance of spice, sweetness and pumpkin is what follows most into tasting.
Despite an incredibly strong pumpkin aroma, this ale has a sweet vanilla taste profile, with only a complimentary pumpkin and spice flavor. While on the sweeter side, the finish brings in warmth, slight hoppy bitterness and more fresh pumpkin flavor.
Braaaiins! is(?), are(?), we’ll go with is, it is exactly what a pumpkin ale should be, there’s substantial pumpkin flavor that tastes real and fresh, not artificial, while also having enough nuance to not taste too much like a pumpkin candy drink.
