Brewery Review: Stickman Brews (Royersford, PA)

Stickman Brews is a family owned business, with a small staff, but producing big flavor! If you’ve never been, this 10 barrel brewery is a real hidden gem. Producing some of the more delicious IPA’s you will find for the area, it is a location that is worth the trip. However, as we found out, there is so much more to Stickman than their IPA’s.

As they say themselves, they’re born from the idea that the only thing serious about beer should be the freshness and flavor. And if you follow them at all on social media you know this attitude to be true. The staff at Stickman take beer making very seriously, but the seriousness stops there. A light hearted staff is what you will find when you visit their location. Just check out some of their Instagram videos to see for yourself.

Think they don’t take beer making seriously? While most breweries may overlook this small detail, we learned that Stickman uses these style four pack holders because the open space prevents anything from growing between the can and cap. Something so small, that can have a big impact.

During our visit we toured the location with Owner/ Brewer Ethan Buckman to learn what makes the ONLY brewery in Royersford, PA so unique while also learning about all of the growth they are experiencing. Growing up in the beer industry, it makes sense that Stickman has succeeded the way they have. Ethan originally began his career at Church Brew Works in Pittsburgh, from there he rose through the ranks in both the brewery and winery industries. Having served as a winery cellar master, the Head Brewer at Mustang Brewing (Oklahoma) as well as Free Will Brewing (Perkasie, PA) Ethan’s background is second to none.

It is because of this background, as well as the family/ team around him, that Stickman has been able to create the reputation they have since opening only 2.5 years ago. We discussed with Ethan some of the excitement/ growth they have experienced recently.

Beer Growth

Just because “haze bombs” dominate the market, that doesn’t stop Stickman from producing a plethora of flavor. Brewing and producing 2 – 3 beers per week allows them to continuously deliver their delicious offerings into the market. During any visit to their brewery you will find a 12 tap system constantly being rotated with American, British, Belgian and German beer styles brewed to traditional techniques.

The tap list during our visit:

As we found out, while they are continuing to brew their staples they are also beginning a series of beers called the “Bake Shop”. This series will feature beers with the same base recipe, but flavors will continue to evolve. The base of the series will be a scaled down version of their Double Deuce; a 9.5% Imperial IPA that will be reduced to about 7% ABV for the series. The initial offering from the Bake Shop series will be a Key Lime Pie with more flavors to come.

Growth In The Brewery Plus A Second Location

The beer isn’t the only evolution coming out of Stickman. They have also recently opened a second location while also experiencing growth in their Royersford brewery with the addition of a kitchen. In the coming months Stickman plans to offer a menu of bar food including burgers, cheesesteaks, nachos, tacos and so much more. Visitors will soon be able to enjoy a robust meal paired with a delicious beer offering for their future visits to the brewery.

The addition of the kitchen is just one part of the growth puzzle. As we mentioned above they recently opened a second location. Situated in Tony Joe’s House of Great Eat’s in Pottstown.

During any visit to Tony Joe’s you can find a full tap list of Stickman beers along with their full menu of food offerings.

Along with some of the haziest beers the area has to offer, and a variety of beer styles, the location at Stickman will have you sitting around with friends for hours. With a wall full of traditional board games we all loved growing up as children, this location is the ideal spot to spend an evening with friends laughing the night away. And with the addition of the kitchen there really will be no reason to leave.

When you do decide to leave, make sure to take some beer to go! Stickman is one of the few breweries in the area with their own cooler. When visiting them they have 10 (and sometimes as many as 15) styles of beer cans in the cooler for you to take on the go with you. No lines here, just pull up to the cooler, grab what you want and you are on your way!
