Brotherly Suds 7 from Sly Fox Brewing, et al.

Brotherly Suds 7 is a Ryebock Lager from Sly Fox Brewing in collaboration with Yards, Victory, Stoudts, Flying Fish, Iron Hill and Tröegs in a yearly show of camaraderie among the Pennsylvania breweries (and Flying Fish, because they’re cool too).

Suds pours to a light straw color with a thin one finger head that quickly dissipates with minimal lacing. It offers a slight floral aroma alongside a more noticeable malty sweetness. There’s a very small amount of carbonation making this an excellent summer beer where you wouldn’t mind downing two, three or the whole four-pack of 16 oz. cans while doing some summer grilling. Every sip goes down easy with not much warmth* from a fairly robust 7.0% ABV. Fairly thin on the tongue without much lingering mouth feel this may turn some off, but does make it compatible with more types of food as it will not linger and interfere with typically incompatible flavors.

*In full disclosure this was first drank from a chilled can in a frosted glass, towards the end of the pint, once it began to warm up a bit it did take on a stronger malty sweetness with the 7.0% becoming more apparent.

Who’s this beer for?

  • Collectors – only available at the Craft Brewers Conference, Philly Beer Week with cans also being sold at the Sly Fox Brewery in limited quantities of the never to be made again brew
  • An answer to the light summer beer – this is not a shandy, or your typical light lager it has some punch with its alcohol content without beating you over the head with it either
