Eight Central PA breweries unite to create 717 Collaboration Beer

Tröegs Independent Brewing announces the return of 717 Collaboration Beer, a joint endeavor among the Hershey-based independent brewery and seven other popular local breweries.

Brewed at Tröegs in collaboration with Appalachian Brewing, Boneshire Brew Works, Cartel Brewing & Blending, Pizza Boy Brewing, Wolf Brewing, Yah Brew, and Zeroday Brewing, the beer serves as a reminder of the camaraderie that exists among breweries thanks to the thriving craft beer industry in Central Pennsylvania.

This year’s 717 Collaboration Beer is a 4.7% ABV New Zealand-style Pilsner that highlights Nelson Sauvin, Motueka, and Citra hops. Combining the light, malty and crisp attributes of a pilsner with the hop-forward aroma and dry bitterness of an IPA, the beer boasts notes of ripe summer melon, white grape, and bright citrus.

“Some of the brightest ideas have been developed among sharing stories and laughs with friends over beer,” says Tröegs co-founding brother and brewmaster John Trogner. “Whether we’re Central PA natives or transplants, we’ve all come together in the 717 with a common goal – to brew great beer and cultivate great friendships.”

While brewing the beer, Tröegs hosted an informal gathering and bottle share in the brewery’s Tasting Loft. In addition to the breweries that participated in the collaboration beer, Trogner extended the invitation to all Pennsylvania breweries for an afternoon of celebrating the commonwealth’s rich and diverse brewing community.

“It was amazing to see so many folks from the industry travel near and far to hang for a while at our brewery,” adds Trogner. “We billed it as part collab, part bottle share, and part general hellraising, and we’re pretty sure we hit on all three of them equally.”

All eight participating breweries will unveil the 717 Collaboration Beer on Friday, July 17. The limited beer will be available on draft at each brewery’s taproom and in 16oz cans. cans throughout Central PA.

“This collaboration truly captures the spirit of community and camaraderie across the PA beer scene,” says Hannah Ison, Director of Brewing Operations at Zeroday. “Getting together with friends from the industry and taking a day to catch up, share some beers, and commiserate every now and then is so important. I love this beer style, and I’m glad we decided to build off last year’s recipe. I can’t wait to share it with everyone!”
