In an email obtained by us from Kurant Cider, the business has decided to close its doors in Philadelphia. While both the cider and brewery name (Kurant Brew & Brew) will be closing, as you’ll see below, the area will not be without a craft brewery for long. As part of the plan is to open Meyers Brewing Company in May of 2021.

Ownership penned the following open letter to fans announcing the decision:

“Like most of the world, Kurant has had a rough ride over the past year.  Small businesses were hit extremely hard by the pandemic.  The food and beverage industries were hit particularly hard.  Unfortunately due to the pandemic and several compounding factors, we regret to announce Kurant Cider is officially closing.

First and foremost we want to thank all of our amazing customers over our 7 year journey.  Without your support and energy for Kurant we wouldn’t have made it this far.  We’ve met a lot of incredible people along the way and we’ll miss them the most.  It was a privilege to work with so many amazing people, from the farmers we bought apples from, to the staff at our favorite retailers and bars.  We wish our customers and friends the best .

Kurant Brew & Brew taproom in Fishtown will be closing in 2 weeks. Sunday April 10th will be the last day for the taproom unless we run out of remaining product earlier. We have our standard offerings plus this is the last chance to grab our personal favorite cider, Viejo. Viejo is an almost 5 year aged Spanish style sidra fermented in oak made from 100% Winchester apples grown at Big Hill Orchards in Gardners PA. Don’t miss your last chance to get this special cider!

We decided to close Kurant Cider’s production operations back in October of 2020 but kept the closing quiet so Mike could continue to operate Kurant Brew & Brew until there was a new plan for the space.  Kurant Brew & Brew, which Mike owned and operated since its opening in June of 2018 with Joe as the cidermaker, will transition to Mike’s new project Meyers Brewing Company. The brewery is slated to open this May 2021. Joe will be exploring options in a new direction launching an eSports team, Square Motorsports, and focusing on his career prior to opening Kurant Cider as a graphic designer and photographer.  While we’re headed in separate ways, we made these difficult decisions mutually and remain good friends.
