Mudbank Milk Stout is a 6.5% ABV milk stout with oatmeal from Neshaminy Creek Brewing Co. in Croydon, PA. Stouts come in many shapes and forms, from the deliciously roasty breakfast stout to the creamy milk stout, all the way to the beefy, warming imperial.
MBMS from NCBC (because acronyms are fun) pours to a midnight black color with a thin khaki colored that leaves little to no trace in its wake. The aroma has a roasted malt base, but with tons of heavy cream sweetness, almost like a fresh poured cup of coffee that your Aunt Sally cut with lots of creamer (usually a terrible thing, but in this case, awesome).
The light and sweet scent perfectly leads into a pleasantly balanced milk stout. The traditionally bitter notes of dark chocolate and coffee are expertly countered by a condensed milk sweet. This combined with a smooth mouthfeel from the oatmeal create a beer that may go down too easy, because even coming in a bomber bottle this stout is gone too soon.
A stout this approachable and delicious is long overdue for joining the ranks of NCBC’s flagship beers like J.A.W.N. and the now officially full-time, The Shape of Hops to Come.
