Pilger Ruh Brewing Expanding With New Taproom In Gettysburg

Pilger Ruh Brewing first opened its doors in July of 2021 at 213 N Centre Street in Pottsville, PA.

The time has come for Pilger Ruh to expand, and the brewery has recently announced plans for its second location in Gettysburg at 110 Chambersburg St Rear, named Pilger Ruh Brewing Taproom & Beergarden – Gettysburg.

We recently spoke with Pilger Ruh to find out more about the new location.

BIPA: What is the estimated opening of the space?

Pilger Ruh: We are trying to get open for St. Patrick’s Day Weekend. We’re in the final steps of getting everything approved with the PLCB and the city, so it really shouldn’t be later than that if we don’t hit that goal.

BIPA: Will you brew here or is this a taproom only?

Pilger Ruh: We will still do all of our brewing in Pottsville, Gettysburg will be a Taproom only.

BIPA: Can you describe the new location?

Pilger Ruh: The location was used as a garage up until covid. The owners of Ragged Edge Coffee Shop transformed it into a taproom which Good Intent Cider moved into last year. They moved out at the start of the year and we’ve been quietly planning this taproom since then.

We’ll have 8 taps available, cans, and crowlers, and we’re going to bring our craft cocktail and bloody mary menu down as well. The main bar is about 14ft long and the back bar is roughly 20ft so we should have seats for about 30 people. We share a beer garden with the coffee shop which can hold approximately 80 people. Ragged Edge is going to collab with us on bringing in some live music, open mics, trivia, and some other cool events we do up in Pottsville.

BIPA: Will you have food at this taproom?

Pilger Ruh: We’re not going to have food at this location but Ragged Edge Coffee, who’s in front of our spot has food so our customers can order from there or bring food in from wherever.

BIPA: Will you have the same beers and cans as the main location?

Pilger Ruh: We’ll have some of the same beers at both locations, like our sour series and IPAs will mostly be the same but we definitely plan on having Gettysburg and Pottsville exclusives.

BIPA: Anything else to mention about the space?

Pilger Ruh Tyler: I’ve always had a love for the Gettysburg area ever since I was a little kid. Pre covid, when we were looking into places to open Pilger Ruh, Gettysburg was one of those potential locations. Since Pottsville worked out for us better at that time, we put Gettysburg as a 2nd location destination as a 5-year goal on our business plan. We’ve been lucky enough to be able to achieve this in 2 years and for that, we’re all extremely grateful. It was 100% being in the right place at the right time, huge shout out to Michael Calandrelle from Gettysburg Rocks, Ben Wenk of Ploughman Cider, and Jake from Ragged Edge Coffee.

Make sure to follow Pilger Ruh’s new taproom account on Facebook and its main Instagram, and stay tuned for the opening announcement of their Gettysburg location.
