The Shakes is a 6.8% ABV coffee porter from Hitchhiker Brewing Company (Pittsburgh, PA). Another in a line of great can releases, this brew features Fair a Trade Organic Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee and was brewed in collaboration with 19 Coffee Company. Also included in this brew are Maris Otter, Medium Crystal, and Chocolate Malts.
Pouring to a very dark brown, you’ll get a nice tan head in your glass. Aromas of coffee and bready malts are what we immediately noticed.
Tasting The Shakes brings flavors of rich coffee, milk chocolate, pralines (pecans with sugar), we noticed caramel, and some toffee as well. With a light to medium body, this porter isn’t overpowering in the coffee flavors. The carbonation is just right, leaving you want another sip.
