Brave Noise: A Beer Collaboration With A Big Goal And The PA Breweries Taking Part

Brave Noise Beer is a new global beer collaboration made to promote a safe and discrimination-free beer industry.

Per the website, “Brave Noise is advocating for safe spaces and inclusive environments by requesting breweries be transparent with their policies and commit to long-term work.”

Back in May, Brienne Allen, the production manager at Notch Brewing (Salem, Massachusetts), asked a question on her Instagram story: “Have you ever experienced sexism in the beer industry?”

The responses she received were overwhelming (totaling almost 1,000), and were detailing experiences of gender discrimination, racism, sexual assault, and harassment. As she was getting answers she reposted them as stories to her Instagram account (@ratmagnet). Many prominent breweries and owners were mentioned, including Pennsylvania’s own Tired Hands owner Jean Broillet.

To keep the movement and discussion going, and to honor those that have spoken out, those who brew this beer “are standing in solidarity with those people who have shared their stories about mistreatment, and who are survivors of gender discrimination, racism, sexual assault, and harassment within the industry”, according to Brave Noise’s website.

This beer can be supported by breweries, homebrewers, and beer drinkers. For breweries, there are certain guidelines to be a part of the collab, and they can be found at BraveNoiseBeer.com. Participating breweries are asked to release their version of Brave Noise Pale Ale before the end of December 2021.
