Dock Street Begins Construction On New Location In Fishtown Neighborhood Of Philadelphia

Last year we brought you the news that one of Philadelphia’s most iconic brewing brands was closing its original location, but still keeping an eye on the future. Dock Street Beer left its brewery in West Philadelphia (now home to Carbon Copy) but kept operations in South Philadelphia running.

Now it looks like the next step in their future plans are coming to life as the brewery recently announced expansion plans to the Fishtown neighborhood of Philadelphia. The historic brand has made plans to open at 1229 N. Front Street in an 1,100 square foot space in an area ripe with brewery growth with brands like Brewery ARS, Evil Genius and more calling the neighborhood home.

We recently spoke with Renata Certo-Ware of Dock Street to learn more about the space and what local guests can expect. As you will see on their social media pages Dock Street is in the midst of construction on the space as they will be the very first ones to operate out of the location. This has allowed them the blank space needed to customize just about everything within the walls of the facility.

You can see the latest update on construction from the brewery below.

“Dock Street South is pretty enormous (nearly 11k sq ft, with about 6,000 of that being brewery space) so we’re brewing and canning there. Dock Street Fishtown will be a taproom showcasing our most popular brews alongside some of the funkier one-offs, and will also feature amazing cocktails, similar to the bar program at Dock Street South. We’ll feature local PA spirits and seasonal, themed cocktails” Certo-Ware said when describing the new location.

While the Fishtown taproom will not have the same amount of space as the main facility in South Philadelphia, Dock Street does plan to continue pairing handmade craft beer and food. The food offerings will be done commissary kitchen style, where they will offer light bites made at Dock Street South to pair with beer and cocktails. And much like the main brewery guests will have another location to enjoy Dock Street beer both on draft and plenty of cans to-go.

Certo-Ware went on to describe the location saying “the design of the space is a little funkier than we normally do. Dock Street West was very DIY and cozy, Dock Street South is bright and airy and spacious, and Dock Street Fishtown is going to be a little moody with lots of jewel-tones and dark tile, and a lot cheeky with some very fun wallpaper, little nods to one famous Philadelphian in particular, and a big gallery wall.”

As of this writing construction is still ongoing and the plan is for the space to open early Spring. Check back when an official opening date is announced. Meanwhile you can keep up with the growth by following Dock Street on Facebook or the Fishtown locations Instagram page.
