Falling Down Brown Ale is a hybrid style ale, part IPA and traditional brown ale with 6.5% ABV from Old Forge Brewing Co. in Danville, PA. Available as a fall release this mixed style is like autumn in a can with a bit of sweetness for the chilly months and a bit of refreshing bite for the warmer ones.
This brown ale pours to a dark brown with a lighter brown head full of dense bubbles and some lacing that hugs the glass. The aroma is pleasantly sweet with lighter notes of caramel, toffee and some subtle toasted malt.
The brown ale portion definitely leads this brew off with a sweet biscuit-like flavor as well as some bready sweetness. The IPA side quickly takes over however, as an earthy hoppiness comes to the forefront to add a reasonable amount of bitterness.
Whether deep into the winter or summer or anytime in between Old Forge has provided a nuanced craft beer that can satisfy lovers of malt and hops alike.
