Mango and Strawberry Milkshakes from Tired Hands Brewing Company

Mango Double Milkshake and Strawberry Milkshake are just two in the long line of collaborations between Tired Hands Brewing Company and the Swedish brewing company, Omnipollo. Being a double, Mango comes in at 9.7% ABV with the strawberry variety still reaching 7.2% ABV.

Technically american pale ales these milkshakes are also made with lactose sugar that is then fermented atop the fruit of choice. Tired Hands likes to use fruits high in pectin, a polysaccharide found in fruit, that when mixed with sugar will thicken substances; all of the best tasting jams use a similar method.

Because of this process you’ll notice both milkshakes are very hazy with a good amount of milkiness to them (hence the name) and a thick, creamy head at the top. Both give off a powerful aroma of the fruit that was used to make them, with the mango having a bit more of a pronounced scent.

Each brew pours extremely smooth with little to no detectable carbonation producing a creamy mouthfeel that does bring thoughts of true milkshakes to mind. Mango Milkshake offers full mango flavor up front with limited hoppy, bitterness. Balancing out it finishes to notes of citrus hops and more fresh mango flavor that lingers on the tongue.

The more subtle offering, Strawberry Milkshake has a mild strawberry flavor on the nose with some citrus and piny notes making their way into the first sips of this beer. Whereas its mango brother swings from big mango to big hops with a lingering finish, Strawberry has an even flavor of both hops and fruit throughout.

Any offering in the milkshake series is worth a try to beer lovers of all kinds as it’s a near unique experience that is hard to find in the rest of the craft beer world. Their pronounced fresh flavors, creamy texture and considerable density make these brews a true dessert to be enjoyed and savored.
