Separatist Beer Project Announces Expansion To Philadelphia

As you may have read recent, Sole has rebranded to the Separatist Beer Project. But rebranding is not the only excitement coming from this brewery. They also announced plans to expand! We recently met with owner Joe Percoco to learn more about the re-branding and expansion and what went into it.

Changing from “one” to “many” made him think it was time to evolve, including brewing beer in a different way, creating many new styles. He realized the passion included a barrel program, foudres, and a koelschip to produce older style beers.

In addition, Joe had the idea months ago as he was thinking about the future of the brewery and the different mixed fermentation beer styles he was creating. With the change, they brought in a whole new art director to go in the new direction.

With things moving fast, the nearby “blendery” is in full swing with racks of barrels and foudres filled with many delicious beers fermenting away.

Separatist Beer Project also recently announced a Philadelphia location opening soon.

This location will be “a concept bar and beer experience” on Passayunk Avenue. Since they started Sole/Separatist Beer Project has sent more kegs to Philly than any other region, so to them it made sense to become a part of the craft beer hub of South Philly. They anticipate opening at the end of 2018, but it could possibly be earlier!

Joe told us his goal for the company is to provide for his employees a sustainable long term career, one where they can be comfortable. We learned that employees who work a certain amount of hours get healthcare and retirement benefits as well.

It’s going to be an exciting summer for SBP. In addition to the new location in Philadelphia, the blendery will be opening a small rustic concept (serving people American wild ales right from the casks). It will be open certain days and also feature live music.

SBP is currently at capacity, but they’re going to try to increase to a few more special draft accounts. We encourage you to go try the new beers they are making!
