We recently posted about low ABV beers to enjoy in Pittsburgh this summer. Why not enjoy some of them at a beer garden? Many breweries in Pittsburgh offer outdoor seating on patios and rooftops to enjoy the warm months.
Make sure these breweries are on your radar, go visit them, and enjoy the summer! How many have you visited so far?

Allegheny City Brewing | North Side
Owned and operated by a trio who fell in love with the local craft beer scene, Allegheny City Brewing has been a staple on the North Side since 2016. In response to outdoor dining mandates in 2020, the brewery created its very own outdoor dining space which remains operational to this day!
The Church Brew Works | Lawrenceville
Another staple in the Pittsburgh brewery community, The Church Brew Works is a brewery in a former church last used in the late 1990s. They offer a full menu of house-brewed beers, a menu of great American cuisine, and they feature a beer garden out back to accommodate many people.
Cinderlands Beer Co. – Warehouse | Strip District
Cinderlands Beer Co opened the “Warehouse” in 2019, in the old spaghetti warehouse. The 17,000 sq ft 300 seat space offers an amazing 2nd story outdoor terrace that overlooks the neighborhood. With 16 taps and a scratch kitchen serving up lots of tasty food, there is something for everyone.

Grist House | Millvale
Grist House Brewing is known for its large outdoor patio space leading up to the indoor taproom. (And are even in the process of expanding on the location). Summer or winter (with bonfires of course), you can enjoy this space with your dog and eat from the many food trucks they schedule.
Hitchhiker Brewing | Mt. Lebanon & Sharpsburg
Hitchhiker Brewing is known for great beer, and you can enjoy it at both of their locations outside! The Mt. Lebanon location has an outdoor space both out front and back of their taproom, and their Sharpsburg brewery/taproom has a patio out back which can seat an additional 70 people.

Necromancer Brewing | North Hills
As of this writing, Necromancer Brewing hasn’t been open even a year yet, but they have already introduced a unique outdoor drinking area for guests to take advantage of this upcoming season. You pair this with their much larger, indoor facility and you have the making of one of the soon to be must visit facilities in Pittsburgh.
Old Thunder Brewing | Blawnox
Old Thunder opened its taproom for the first time in April 2021 and has consistently put out a full tap list of beers on draft and in cans. Located in the Blawnox neighborhood, the front patio/beer garden can seat about 40 people, overlooking Freeport Road.
Penn Brewery | Troy Hill
A must-visit brewery in Pittsburgh (they’ve been brewing craft beer since 1986), you’ll feel like you’re in a real German Biergarten with beers and food to complement. Penn beers have won a total of 20 Great American Beer Festival and World Beer Cup medals, so grab a few and relax!
Roundabout Brewery | Chateau
As you read on our site, Roundabout closed its primary brewing location earlier this year. But thankfully they remain a part of the Pittsburgh craft beer landscape through their outdoor beer garden. Located on the North Side portion of the Three Rivers Heritage Trail at the N. Franklin Street trail parking area, this beer garden is open Thursdays to Sundays, and depends on the weather, since they only have outdoor seating at this time. Here you can enjoy the beautiful view of the Ohio River.
Spoonwood Brewing Company | Bethel Park
Spoonwood Brewing Co has two large garage doors at the back of the taproom that opens up to a huge outdoor patio with space for an additional 40+ people. With 12+ beers on at any time and a delicious food menu, you can’t go wrong with a visit here.
Strange Roots Experimental Ales | Millvale & Gibsonia
Strange Roots has two locations, each with an outdoor beer garden. Their first location in Millvale is right at the intersection of E Ohio St and Meade St and offers a great space to enjoy their brews outside. The second location in Gibsonia has a huge outdoor area….known as the “funk yard” that is ready for fun! They also get food trucks at both locations regularly, so you’ll never go hungry.

Trace Brewing | Bloomfield
Trace Brewing first opened in the Bloomfield neighborhood for can sales to go only in December of 2020. Fast forward all these years later and they have created a thriving and bustling brewery in the heart of the neighborhood. Accompanying their taproom is an outdoor beer garden that remains busy day and night. The crown jewel of the space may be their coolship room which has been hand crafted to offer a next level experience for those who visit.
Two Frays | Garfield
Two Frays started selling to-go beer in May and opened for bar service in June. Located in the former Star Soap Building, they offer seating for about 45 outside. This a perfect place to take your four-legged friend while you enjoy a few beers.
Union Brothers | Harmony
Union Brothers opened in June 2020 and has a very large outdoor beer garden. With seating for 150 (yes 150!), this is easily one of the biggest beer gardens at a brewery within driving distance of the city. The beer garden is full-service, dog and kid-friendly, and has live music every Saturday and Sunday.
