The 2025 stats are out for craft beer and for a third year in a row Pennsylvania has seen a drop in craft beer production. Pennsylvania produced 1.9 million barrels of beer for the year. This is a 700,000 barrel drop from 2024 which saw 2.6 million barrels produced.
Each year the Brewers Association releases public data available on beer production on all states throughout the country. (You can see all past details on PA Beer stats here). And below we look at some of the key data points for Pennsylvania.
Most notably the 700K drop in production is the biggest decrease since the data has been collected. The year prior (from 2023 to 2024) Pennsylvania saw a drop in 500,000 barrels. Putting Pennsylvania at a more than 1.2 million barrel decrease over the last 2 years. This decline is the second year in a row the state has produced less beer than the previous year.
| 2016: 3,905,620 | 2021: 3,244,840 |
| 2017: 3,724,010 | 2022: 3,126,983 |
| 2018: 3,719,475 | 2023: 3,132,799 |
| 2019: 3,606,444 | 2024: 2,632,450 |
| 2020: 3,156,074 | 2025: 1,917,717 |
Despite this drop, the state remains number two in the country for overall production, meaning the industry as a whole is experiencing the same results. In 2025, the U.S. craft beer industry faced historic volume declines, with production dropping 5.1% to 21.8 million barrels as consumers drank less. The Keystone states 1.9 million barrels produced comes behind California who ended the year with 3.6 million barrels.
Production isn’t the only drop the state saw for craft beer. The economic impact of the brewing industry decreased as well. Craft beer contributed 4.8 billion dollars to the economy in 2025. Which is a 400,000 decrease from the 5.2 billion impact in 2024.
One positive data point for the year is number of operating breweries in the state. For the second year in a row Pennsylvania has rebounded from the first ever drop in operating breweries. The Keystone State increased the number of operating breweries from 533 to 538, a net gain of 5 breweries.
Below you can see the number of operating breweries in PA since 2011:
| 2011: 88 | 2016: 205 | 2021: 486 |
| 2012: 104 | 2017: 282 | 2022: 531 |
| 2013: 108 | 2018: 354 | 2023: 530 |
| 2014: 136 | 2019: 401 | 2024: 533 |
| 2015: 178 | 2020: 444 | 2025: 538 |
In addition to production, Pennsylvania remained in the top part of the country in many other areas as well. Pennsylvania remained the #2 state in the country in economic impact, came in at #7 in gallons per 21+-year-old adult, and #6 in impact per capita.
