North Ramp Coffee Stout from Saucony Creek Brewing Company is an oatmeal stout made with brewed coffee from Benchwarmers Coffee Co. in Fleetwood, PA.
Pouring to a dark, brown hue with a fluffy light beige head this brew has only a feint coffee aroma. The coffee flavor does make its way through when tasting with the aroma becoming slightly more pronounced as the beer sits and warms. Some chocolate flavor is detectable if it’s looked for, but it is hardly in your face and definitely not in the realm of some chocolate porters out there.
Fairly thin on the tongue there is very minimal lingering flavor which prompts a second and third tasting without it becoming stale. As with most stouts this one is fairly light on the alcohol content with it sitting at 5.0% ABV, making it quite drinkable. It does pair excellently with chocolate as anything coffee generally does and is best served chilled, but not necessarily ice cold.
