Hooray! Sports! is an American pale ale or as Evil Genius would call it, a “hoppy pregame ale” with 6.5% ABV. This ale is brewed with Citra hops as well as Sorachi Ace, a rarer hop originating from Japan seen in Brooklyn’s appropriately named, Brooklyn Sorachi Ace Saison.
Hooray! Sports! pours to a golden orange with a bit of haziness, blocking some light from filtering through. The nose is full of citrus as expected, the Citra and Sorachi Ace combine wonderfully to create a vibrant aroma of fresh squeezed lemons along with some presence of lime and island fruit.
Despite its “hoppy” description this ale definitely leans on the juicy side of the pale ale spectrum. Flavorful sips are filled with citrus notes and some grassy hop flavor, but next to no bitterness. This brew is a wonderful two-for, you get to try a harder to find hop like Sorachi Ace and you get a delicious, approachable tasting experience.
This American pale ale definitely trends less bitter and dank than their recent release of #Adulting. If you’re looking to set up your own little tasting flight of Evil Genius’ IPAs then we’d suggest going O’ Doyle Rules, Hooray! Sports! then #Adulting before finishing with Han Shot First to get the most flavor out of each brew.
